Today’s song is “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)” by Ajay Mathur. The acclaimed Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter was born and raised in India now resided in Switzerland.

Mathur mashes American and traditional Indian instrumentation with pop and rock melodies with for a soothing and emotional sound that transcends genres.

This has been a track 40 years in the making. Initially written after John Lennon’s senseless murder and dedicated to the iconic musician, the song came out of the emotional trauma felt by Mathur. “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)” was written from the perspective of somebody who was close by when Lennon was shot, came out like a gasp for breath, swift and soothing.

What inspired Ajay to finish the song was the Covid pandemic. April 2020 he retreated to his home studio. Inspired by his favorite records he went on to write and sing the lyrics of this track. This was his moment of clarity and emotional strength. He went on to say,

“People exit our lives for many different reasons – end of a relationship, geographic separation, death by illness, carelessness or maliciousness of others – and we are forced to face the void. Recognizing that they are never really gone is where we can begin to find peace and comfort. “Anytime At All (Aftermath of Silence)” describes that moment of clarity, that the people who have touched you deeply are always going to be there with you. All you’ve gotta do is call.”

This is a heartfelt and loving track that features piano melodies from Ajay’s friend and pianist Michael Dolmetsch. It is a song that gives you hope even when you are feeling lost and alone.
