Today’s song is “The Void” by Spiritbox. Together since 2016, this Canadian metal group has been making a name for themselves since they dropped their single “HollyRoller” back in 2020.

As a follow-up to their 2021 release Eternal Blue, this month the band released their first single of the year. This track called “The Void” is a bit of a departure from what fans of Spiritbox may be used to hearing.

With its light and bouncing electro melodies, I thought I was listening to an alt electro-rock band instead of the hard-hitting metal they have put out in the past.

This new sound is a delight despite being somewhat of a departure from their previous music. The song was also something the band has been wanting to create for a while and came naturally to fruition. According to vocalist Courtney LaPlante,

‘The Void’ is a song that came about very quickly. I didn’t have to fight with anything to write it, and when that happens, I don’t argue with it. It’s a type of song that I’ve been wanting to write for a long time. I’ve heard it hundreds of times now, and it makes me so happy every time I hear it. It’s been such an amazing experience playing this song on our tour, and watching people hear it for the first time in real time.”

I know that metal fans will still enjoy it because my husband is still rocking out to this track and he’s very particular about music.

So whether or not you are into metal, this band has something to offer anyone looking for new music.

You can catch the band live three nights in New York and Philly. Sunday, April 30th, and Monday, May 1st they will be playing at Irving Plaza. Then on Tuesday, May 2nd, they will be playing at The Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia.
