Cage the Elephant delivered a high-octane performance at PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday night, captivating a packed house of 17,500 fans. As soon as the band hit the stage, they set the tone for the night by launching into the gritty, rebellious anthem “Broken Boy,” igniting the crowd with its driving guitar riffs and raw energy. The song’s punk influences and urgent vocals perfectly captured the band’s edgy yet nostalgic style, making it an ideal opener.

Lead singer Matt Shultz, despite being hobbled by a broken foot, rolled onto the stage on a scooter with his head wrapped in a scarf and donning a heavy black jacket. He grabbed the mic and immediately launched into the first song, instantly commanding everyone’s attention.

Known for his wild stage antics, Shultz usually runs and jumps across the stage, but this time, he brought that same intensity with a foot scooter. He bounced up and down, lying back and springing up as best he could with his injury. Far from diminishing the performance, the injury added a new layer of excitement and unpredictability to the show.

The band’s setlist was a well-crafted blend of deep cuts and fan favorites, ensuring something for everyone. Songs like “Good Time,” “Telescope,” and “Sabertooth Tiger” showcased their versatility and kept the crowd engaged throughout. Guitarist Brad Shultz added to the thrill by diving into the crowd during the set, a moment that particularly delighted younger fans in the audience.

Cage the Elephant’s music has a distinct allure when played live. The concert amplified their sound, infusing each track with a heightened sense of urgency and passion that resonated deeply with the audience. Even with Shultz’s limited mobility, the performance was electrifying, proving that their live shows are an experience that fans—both old and new—won’t soon forget.

The night culminated with the track “In One Ear,” a tour debut and the first time it’s been played live since 2018. After that, the band left the stage, returning for a real encore featuring three powerful tracks: “Shake Me Down,” “Cigarette Daydreams,” and “Come a Little Closer.”

Despite the challenges, Cage the Elephant demonstrated that their ability to connect with the crowd and deliver an unforgettable performance remains as strong as ever.
