Today’s song is “S.I.D. (Sunshine in December)” by Rainsford. Rainsford is Rainey Qualley the Los Angeles based triple threat is an actor, model, and singer/songwriter.
Born in New York City and raised in Asheville NC, Qualley was into the arts from early on. As a teen her father taught her to play guitar. That paired with her background in dance (the physical embodiment of sound) she grew into a desire to pursue music.
Her previous musical endeavor was as a country singer opening for Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, as well as playing the Grand Ole Opry.
Rainsford is back with music that she feels more in sync with her sound. Qualley says, “SID is an important and exciting song for me because it marks the realization of where I wanted to start my new project. I had been writing for a while searching for the right feeling and the right people to work with. After my co-writer (Nick Dungo) and I wrote SID I thought ‘this is the sound, this is the feeling, this is where I want to start my new beginning.’ I have had to be patient and wait for the right time to finally share what we’ve been working on. I am thrilled to release new music that feels like sharing a piece of me.”
Her music is an sweet throwback to 90’s pop jams with an R&B flair. Her soulful salacious vocals pair perfectly with indie driven pop rhythms. She reminds me of a mix between Sade and TLC.
