Today’s song is “Right Now (feat. ELHAE, D.R.A.M. & H.E.R.)” by Snakehips. The British group consists of Oliver Lee and James Carter.
The pair met in the summer of 2012 while in Hong Kong working on separate projects at the sake bar Sake Bar Ginn. They came together over their similar musical tastes and decided to meet up before they left the country, however, the meeting did not take place. Instead they wound up being on the same flight to London and decided to set up time in the studio.
The duo made a name for themselves with the Hype Machine chart-topping remixes for Banks, The Weeknd, Bondax and Wild Belle. Earlier this year, the duo also released their 4-track EP Forever (Pt II), featuring a several talented vocalists – Londoner Kaleem Taylor, The Internet’s Syd, singer-songwriter Sasha Keable and Daniella T.A.O.L.
These Brits have a hot vibe infusing old school hip hop and R&B beats with sexy vocals for a sick entertaining and dance worthy electronica track.
“We love the vibe of 90s music – Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, that golden era of R&B with singers like Aaliyah and SWV,” says James. “We’re suckers for anything with cool soul samples and old drum beats. But we’re also influenced by living in London. We borrow from the past to make music for the future.”
