Song of the Day: “Last Nights Sugar” by Shawna Virago

Today’s song is “Last Nights Sugar” by Shawna Virago. The San Francisco native is back with another track off her latest release Heaven Sent Delinquent.

“LAST NIGHT’S SUGAR” has been described as dark and intimate, a longing to abandon the heartbreaking reality of economic ruin and return to a sweeter past (Some people have no surprises in them / You can set your clock by their routines / I’m watching my baby lose his paycheck / To rigged slot machines).

Obscuresound.com called it “a harrowing tale of late-night escapades and works off her haunting vocal delivery and solemn acoustics.”

In this track Virago invokes a sound that reminds me of a country-esque Nirvana with her sweet acoustic chords. While the lyrics are ominous and harrowing, the music is inviting and makes you feel her pain. This song is a delicate blend of country, rock, and punk that eases the listener for a great musical experience.
