Song of the Day: “OOFDA” by The Last Artful

Today’s song is “OOFDA” by The Last Artful. The Portland, Oregon group consists of Dodgr & Neill Von Tally.

The duo are quickly making noise with their unique beats and production handled by Von Tally. Their music features Dodgr’s unique take on Hip-Hop and R&B. The sonics take listeners on a journey, telling the story of the life of a blue-collar worker, balancing a discordant home life and relationships with life lessons learned along the way. Dodgr’s voice is a threat in every dimension; equipped with memorable melodies, an agile flow, and puckish, often ostentatious wordplay.

Previously, Dodgr and Von Tally released a debut EP Fractures in 2015, followed by the Rare Treat EP in early 2016, which was a collaboration with Myke Bogan. This spring, The Last Artful, Dodgr released her solo single “Squadron” to acclaim. Most recently, the duo released a captivating music video for their buzzed-about song “Jelly Hunt.” Dodgr’s music has received praise from the likes of Pigeons and Planes, Earmilk, Milk, 2dopeboyz, Uproxx, and Beats 1 to name a few.

The band says “Oofda” is about the relationship our main character is in and the struggles that plague traditional long term relationships especially those strained by stressful work environments and a lack of monetary stability.

This is the band’s first single off their highly anticipated debut album Bone Music due out early next year via Pigeons and Planes.

The laid-back single comes directly after The Last Artful, Dodgr’s November 15 performance on Jimmy Fallon where she stood in as background vocalist for fellow Portland artist, Aminé. She also made a promo appearance on popular syndicated radio show “Sway in the Morning” day of the “Oofda” release.
