Song of the Day: “Night & Day” by The Slang

Today’s song is “Night & Day” by The Slang. The Columbus, Ohio group consists of John Bobo (vocals/guitar/piano) and John Newsmen (bass).
Before becoming a musician lead singer John Bobo had an opportunity to work as an FBI Special Agent. Instead of a pursing a career in law enforcement Bobo decided to focus on music and his band’s debut self-titled EP.

This is the title track of their sophomore release out now. The name Night & Day alludes to the changes the band went through since the EP was recorded.

They went from a The band went from a three-piece to a duo and decided to change the scenery by recording in Nashville versus New York City.

The EP was recorded at the Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, TN. It was was mixed and produced by Russ Long (Wilco, Sixpence None the Richer).

This alternative rock duo has a powerful sound that can’t be beat. Their influences span across a genre of music from rockers like Rage Against the Machine and Johnny Cash to the Americana of Tom Petty and the indie folk of Pete Yorn.

This song hits your hard with its infectious drum beats. It gritty 90’s feel has a interesting blend of sounds that reminds me of a mix of The Goo Goo Dolls meets The Cure with Bobo’s ear pleasing vocals.

The band will be playing an acoustic show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, on the 25th of this month.
