Today’s song is “Mistakes” by Night Marcher. The Salt Lake City, Utah singer songwriter Rob Reinfurt is a multi instrumentalist who plays the guitar, bass, keys and drums.

The name “Night Marchers” comes from the song by the avant-groove band, Medeski, Martin and Wood. Night Marchers are a Hawaiian legend, who are the ghosts of ancient Hawaiian warriors and ward off evil spirits. According to Po Kane Haunted Hawaiian Nights, by Lopaka Kapanui, “The night marchers are
the vanguard for a sacred chief or chiefess who unusually have a high station in life.”
Medeski, Martin and Wood had a heavy influence on Reinfurt’s musical stylings.

Reinfurt was drawn to music with this song along with other things he battling in his life: problems with the law and within himself. All of this angst was channeled into a musical outlet with his first creative pursuit, The Weekenders. The energy came in droves: first it was rock songs, fuzz, reminiscent of the ones which rattled his teenage years. Then as his outlook began to change so did his music. Rob began to loosen up and get into a funkadelic and soulful sound.

This song is off his upcoming album Modern Maze out this spring. For this project he had the help of Austin Nicholsen (a bass player in Leftover Cuties and Brightside), Shaun Thomas (who is the drummer in The Weekenders), and Peter Adams (keys) who has recorded and played with Macy Gray, John Oates and Josh Groban.

He tears it up with this soothing, piano ballad. His style is an enticing electric mix of rock, soul, and psychedelics. He has a cool vibe that would appeal to fans of appeal to fans of the Alabama Shakes and Beck.
