Song of the Day: “My Own Way Out” By Guy Grogan

Today’s song is “My Own Way Out” by Guy Grogan. The Santa Fe, New Mexico native.

This Santa Fe, New Mexico is singer songwriter plays guitar, bass, drums, piano, percussion, and sings. This one-man virtuoso is recipient of numerous songwriting awards granted by organizations such as Indie International, Song of the Year, American Songwriting Awards, and the UKSC.

Guy grew up playing music in various bands during his time in high school and the University of Memphis. During his college years he also interned at Ardent Studios for indie-rock icon, Jody Stephens, drummer for the seminal 70s band, Big Star.

He started making music in 2010 and since then has self-released and produced nine albums to date.

This song is off his latest release Dynamite Bouquet. In the tradition of Grogen’s DIY approach, the whole album was entirely tracked by himself. However, he enlisted the help of legendary Santa Fe musician and producer, Jono Manson at Kitchen Sink Studios, to to enhance the sound of his musical talents.

This song opens with a powerful drumming to catch your attention. It’s anthemic melodies create a powerful excitement with lyrics you will be singing along to. His angsty indie rock, takes power pop to the next level creating a rocking number that opens the record leaving then listener intrigued and wanting more.

He has been compared to Elliot Smith, Nirvana, Jakob Dylan, The Beatles, Dinosaur Jr, Guided By Voices, Matthew Sweet , and Damien Rice. To me he is reminiscent of Weezer mixed and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.
