Today’s song is “Fat Kiddo” by The Districts. The Lititz Pennsylvania band is comprised of Rob Grote, Connor Jacobus, Braden Lawrence, and Pat Cassidy. The group came together while they were still in high school. The Districts have been described as a “love child between The Black Keys and The Lumineers.”
This is the latest demo from the PA quartet and it comes on the heels of their latest release A Flourish and a Spoil which was released last February. The album was called by NME “a freshly squeezed record with the pulp left in it.” Grote said he has been putting new thoughts into new music and that the song was written “between shows and flights and tours.”
While they may have grown up in a small town, their music is anything but provincial. Their rough and raucous melodies pair with the gnarly vocals of Rob Grote to create a sound that is large and boisterous. The Districts is one band that is sure to be on everyone’s lips in the coming year! They will be playing some shows with Dr. Dog this coming March (see dates below)
