NEW YORK – August 24, 2010
CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival 2010 has partnered with SonicScoop.comto present “Studio Time,” an intensive two-part program focused on music production. Open to all CMJ badge holders, “Studio Time” provides emerging artists, engineers and producers with recording and mixing insights and inspiration from expert music creators.
To be held at New York University’s Kimmel Center, Studio Time’s “Part I: Mix Reconstruction” sees three top mixers taking the audience through their personal mixing process. Each mixer will discuss how they approached and ultimately mixed a song from their discography, playing pre- and post-mix examples to illustrate how they work. Basic techniques and creative solutions will all be examined in this illuminating event.
“Part II: Rough to Refined: Exploring Recording from Demo to the Finished Product”, will be a lively panel-style discussion. In this talk, artists and their producers appear together to play rough demos for the audience, explaining how their complex collaborations resulted in the final, polished song that ultimately made it onto their album. Professional workflow concepts and the creative possibilities between producers and artists will come to light in this lively inside look at modern music production.
“Studio Time” will be moderated by SonicScoop.com Co-Founders/Co-Editors Janice Brown and David Weiss. “It’s a privilege to co-produce ‘Studio Time with CMJ for their Music Marathon & Film Festival 2010,” Weiss says. “This program provides CMJ’s attendees with an up-to-the-minute perspective on music production, direct from top studio pros and the artists they work with.”
“We are excited to partner with Sonic Scoop to host the Studio Time program as part of the 2010 CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival,” says CMJ Music Marathon Executive Producer Joanne Abbot Green. “Studio Time will give the many artists and record makers that attend CMJ the insightful and rare opportunity to hear from those on the cutting edge of music production as they share their creative and collaborate processes in full detail.”
