If you’re a fan of girl bands, then you are sure to like San Antonio garage rock band Girls In A Coma.
The band consists of sisters Nina (singer/guitarist) and Phanie Diaz (drummer), and friend Jenn Alva (bassist).
This past June the rock trio recently put out a new-full length CD, Trio B.C. on Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records The title of the album is a tribute to the girl’s granfather’s 50’s tejano band who was their first musical influence.
Girl in a Coma debuted select tracks from Trio B.C. at SXSW to sold-out venues on March 18, 19 and 20. National tour dates began May 29 in their hometown of San Antonio and will run through the Fall. The band has previously toured with Morrissey, Tegan & Sara, the Pogues, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Social Distortion, Frank Black, Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Tour and on the Vans Warped Tour.
This is music takes the stripped down rawness of punk and adds a cool blend of punk, and the rhythm and blues of 50’s rockabilly to make kitchy, fun music. Vocalist Nina has a rich, deep voice that that compliments the punk rock flavor. This band is really great! Check them out on Myspace and get their album Trio B.C. now on !
