Early in May, I had the pleasure of seeing the DC-based duo, Brian K and the Parkway.

This was my first time seeing them live, and the experience was quite remarkable. Brian Pagels and Stephen Russ, the mainstays of the band, were joined by a full ensemble that brought their recorded music to life in a lively rendition.

From the moment they took the stage, the energy was palpable, flowing from the band into the crowd. Their soulful energy was infectious, resonating through the room and drawing the audience into their dynamic performance.

In return, the audience sang and clapped along, getting swept up in their Springsteen-inspired sound that resonated deeply with those present.

The setlist featured mostly songs from their latest release, Killing the Bear. Tracks “Wind The Clock” and “Little Fires” were crowd favorites, and all of them were delivered with a passion and intensity that showcased the tight musicianship and undeniable chemistry.

From upbeat anthems that had the crowd dancing to more introspective pieces that highlighted their lyrical prowess, Brian K and the Parkway proved why they are a force to be reckoned with in the music scene.

Their music was delivered with precision and passion, showcasing the band’s tight musicianship and undeniable chemistry. Stephen Russ and the rest of the band played seamlessly together, creating a dynamic and engaging performance that captivated the audience from start to finish.

Brian Pagels proved to be an exceptional frontman, with his infectious dancing and boundless energy setting the tone for the evening. The sound was tight and electrifying, making you want to dance and sing along.

Despite their short set due to the packed lineup that night, Brian K and the Parkway managed to create a memorable experience. Their powerful performance and energetic presence proved that even a brief set of music can have a lasting impact when delivered with enthusiasm and skill.

The J&J Studio Space at The Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel is a one-of-a-kind venue in Asbury Park, and the performance by Brian K and the Parkway only added to its charm and allure.
