The Interrupters delivered an energetic and engaging performance at Asbury Park’s Stone Pony Summer Stage, warming up the crowd with their ska-infused set despite the rainy weather.
The Los Angeles-based The Interrupters took the stage in support of Sum 41’s Setting Sum Tour in Asbury Park at around 7:20 pm, this marked their third appearance at the Stone Pony Summer Stage. However, they are no stranger to Asbury Park and have been playing venues here for years and were a crowd pleaser.
Ska filled the air as the band came out to “Ghost Town” by The Specials. Band members Kevin, Justin, Jessie, and Billy looked spiffy in their suits. Lead singer Aimee Interrupter was dressed warmly in a heated scarf and wool coat to keep warm in the cold weather. She spread the warmth by giving out hand warmers to the chilly crowd.
The Interrupters played 13 songs, kicking off with the high-energy, rebellious spirit of “Take Back The Power.” This instantly charged the audience, with even a toddler in the front row handing Aimee a paper heart as a sweet gesture. Despite the rain picking up during their set, the dancing and crowd interaction created a ring of warmth, with everyone moving to the beat and enjoying the music.
Throughout their performance, The Interrupters showcased their strong stage presence and engaging energy. They played a mix of tracks from across their discography, including songs from their self-titled album, Fight the Good Fight, Say It Out Loud, and their latest release, In The Wild.” The setlist was diverse, offering a balance of fan favorites and new material.
Highlights from the set included “In The Mirror,” “She Got Arrested,” and the tour debut of “Anything Was Better.” They also brought a reggae vibe with “Kiss the Ground” and a cover of Bob Marley’s “Judge Not.” Although their cover of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” was fun, some fans on social media expressed a preference for different covers, like “Sorrow.” Additionally, some were disappointed that “By My Side” wasn’t on the setlist.
A humorous moment came when Kevin Interrupter mentioned a video where someone said they were bringing their six-month-old baby to the show. They then played “Raised by Wolves,” in response to the social media request. The band ended their set with the high-energy radio hit “She’s Kerosene,” leaving the crowd wanting more.
During their performance, they played a partial cover of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” a nod to being in New Jersey. The Interrupters have a tradition of playing this song when performing in Asbury Park which is always a fun part of the show.
The Interrupters are known for their family-friendly performances, with all kinds of little kids and adults joining in on the fun. The interaction with the crowd, their dance moves on stage, and the way they introduced each band member contributed to the sense of community. A toddler in the front row even played along on a small trumpet further cementing the sense of family.
Despite being a supporting act, The Interrupters’ energetic performance, engaging stage presence, and interaction with the crowd made their set an unforgettable part of the night. Fans are already hoping to see them return to Asbury Park as headliners next year. If you’re looking for a band that knows how to have fun and get the crowd moving, The Interrupters are not to be missed.

About The Interrupters
When considering Los Angeles outfit The Interrupters, take a moment to kindly forget jargon like “SoCal punk rock” or “next wave ska” or whatever perimeter you want to secure around them. A typical Interrupters gig feels like going to church where all the religious iconography is taken out and replaced with mirrors so the band and audience become one. Ignited by frontwoman Aimee Interrupter and the Bivona brothers’ indefatigable enthusiasm, attendees can see joy in action; discover strength in numbers; and feel bulletproof when facing the forces that haunt them.
