Today’s song is “Those American Eyes” by Flyght Club. Flyght Club is the contemporary music project of Los Angeles artist Shauvik Sharan.
Sharan grew up in Pune, India listening to classic rock artists such as Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, and Pink Floyd. It was this music that inspired him to learn and master the guitar. We went on to be a guitarist in many local bands. His interest in music then expanded to electronica and he started DJing in his city. Over the years his musical talents were noticed as he won many band and DJ competitions.
Five years ago he decided he would move to Los Angeles to to pursue a musical career. There he added some new skills under his belt and began working on songwriting, singning, music production and engineering. This experimentation gave birth to his project “Flyght Club.”
The name refers to a concept where anybody who is trying to rise, achieve their goals and is giving everything they’ve got in order to get that is part of the flyght club. And anybody who supports the vision is also a part.
Prioritizing extreme versatility, Flyght Club’s music ranges over all of the popular music types and explores a whole new genre and its intrinsic elements with every song being made to cater to different listener moods and emotions. Every song is written, produced, performed, and mixed by Shauvik solely to make sure the song is conveyed to the listener exactly the way he intends it to. The songs are then brought to life with a full band during live performances.
This track is more than meets the eye. With a first listen you may think it’s about love for a woman, but Sharan says itis actually a metaphor for making it as a musician in America.
“Those American Eyes is a very special song to me. Contrary to popular first impressions about it being about love or a girl, the song talks about the struggles of staying in the country of opportunities – the United States of America, as an immigrant music artist. The song uses heavy personification and metaphors and is essentially me singing to America personified as a woman with all her enticing charms and opportunities as I try to hold onto my dream of achieving the American dream of making it big in the global music scene. In my past 5 years, I’ve encountered a lot of talented musicians like myself trying to achieve the same dream. Some got a break, many others couldn’t. Lack of work, exploration, and logistic issues caused them to give up on their dream. And so I sing to America as I try my best to hang around and court her.”
With the Flyght Club no genre is left untapped. His music is a soul-shaking, enlightening experience. It can move you with its mash-up of reggae, psychedelic, rock, soul, R&B sounds. If you’re looking for a mellow and chill sound this is definitely it.
