Today’s song is “Lose Your Privilege” by Paul Maged. The New York City-based singer-songwriter is back with a new album that has a bold and signature sound.

Taking influences from punk rock and artists like Bruce Springsteen, Maged has created a heavy-hitting dose of rock n’ roll. His music washes over you with his infectious rock hooks, wit, and social commentary. This combination makes a good sounding song with a thoughtful message.

The track started out about how white privilege plays out in politics, often with leaders making decisions at the peril of those less fortunate. Then George Floyd was brutally murdered and the song took on a different tone, says Maged. “I changed some of the lyrics to reflect the overall theme of white privilege which is much broader than just politics, it’s systemic and deeply rooted everywhere throughout our country and society.”

The song is off his new LP Culture War. This marks Maged’s fifth album and first full-length album since 2014. It is available now
