Washington DC-based, experimental-Pop architects, The North Country released a video for their song “Starting Over.”
These can be challenging times for musicians who should be on tour. The North Country has used this time to fuel their creativity by doing what that they do best: making art.
The track is the band’s creative response to making a music video in the time of social distancing. The video was created by each of the band members recording their respective parts on their phones, then editing the footage together for a conference-video-call-like visual.
“The video is a visual representation of feeling stuck. Little boxes containing pieces of a band. Each performer recorded their part solo, then the individual videos were stitched together to make a whole.
I was completely in awe of this track the second I heard it. The message of “Starting Over” is one we all need to keep in mind. No matter how frustrated we may feel there is always a way to overcome it.
The band has also announced their forthcoming album America and Afterwards, out on June 26, 2020. Though “Starting Over” does not appear on the record, the band felt compelled to release material that connected them to the global crisis as a separate, pertinent entity.
