Song of the Day: “Oh Lawd” by Har’Monique

Today’s song is “Oh Lawd” by Har’Monique. Har’Monique is the moniker of the singer/songwriter Monique Fraser.

Fraser was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York but later relocated to to the small town of Binghamton upstate NY at the age of 13.

Creativity was a gift she carried early on starting out writing novels at the young age of 12. Fraser enjoyed writing but she always wanted to do something more. Music was introduced by her musical engineer boyfriend and she was hooked.

Early on Monique was drawn to classic R&B songs that she grew up on but after diving deeper into the musical landscape she realized that her true passion was in pop and reggae music. She loved the fun yet powerful fast-paced rhythm that told a story of its own waiting to be fleshed out and sculpted all while throwing a little Har’Monique stank on it. She vowed to explore and expand as much as she could musically because she would and could never be boxed in.

What she has created is a really exciting track. Upon first listen we were entranced with her fun and fiery reggae jam. This song brought me back to the best of 90’s reggae with a pop and R&B flair that was simply irresistible.

She cites her influences as Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey, Aaliyah, Brandy, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Michael Jackson, Usher, and Cindy Lauper.

Currently, Har’Monique is working on her debut self-titled release. The album will showcase her eclectic sounds melding smooth r&b sound, with the fun crazy punk sound to the cool mellow reggae sounds.
