It was her academia work that led her to create music. While working on her Ph.D. in Forestry at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC she had been become heartbroken after a split with her longtime boyfriend.
Feeling the stress of academia too much to take music was her only outlet for relief. “Had it not been for music, I don’t think I would have made it through my Ph.D.,” says Gallagher. “There were so many times I wanted to quit.”
Instead, she found a healthy outlet in songwriting. Within a year, she had over 200 songs. “When it comes to songwriting, she’s just a machine,” says Cooper He ey (Maren Morris), who pla ys drums on the EP.
Tanya will be playing the Mile of Music Festival in Appleton Wisconsin running this weekend until Sunday, August 4th.
