Today’s song is “Bad Thing” by THE MOWGLIS. The Los Angeles band is comprised of Colin Louis Dieden (vocals/guitar/percussion), Katie Jayne Earl (vocals/percussion), Matthew Di Panni (bass/vocals), Josh Hogan (guitar/vocals), Dave Appelbaum (keys/vocals), and Andy Warren (drums/percussion/vocals).
Hailing from San Fernando and the Midwest, Mowgli represents what is great about California. They are inspired by the magnetism of San Francisco, the grind of Los Angeles and the serenity of the Big Sur Coast.
Part 60’s Laurel Canyon, part 70’s Venice Beach and part 10’s Silverlake, the band and the harmonies are held together by their message of universal love, peace and the belief that the highest form of consciousness is achieved by togetherness and unity.
Taking influences from artists like Grouplove, Edward Sharpe And the Magnetic Zeros, Neil Young, The Byrds, The Beach Boys and Fleetwood Mac they have melded a host of genres including indie pop, beach rock, folk, and country to make a fun loving sound. Their music brings a cool, easy feel good vibe with harmonious vocals and up lifting melodies.
Kate Jane Earl vocalist for the MOWGLI’s says the song “explores loneliness, a theme that shows itself a lot on this record. In the song we talk about the desire to connect with other people as a means of escaping loneliness, only to find out that loneliness still lingers…But maybe that’s not such a bad thing.”
This song is off their third album WHERE’D YOUR WEEKEND GO? which is out today on Photo Finish Records. The song recently premiered on YAHOO! Music calling it “Irresistibly catchy…”
The band is on tour in support of the new record and will be hitting the Jersey Shore next weekend. Saturday, October 8th they will be playing a show at the House of Independents in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
