Today’s song is “Little Heart” by WHIM. This is the solo project from the New Zealand artist known as Deanne Kreig. She has been writing and performing music in Wellington professionally for the last six years, and also has a Bachelors degree in Performance Vocal Jazz at the New Zealand School of Music.
Deanne utilises her musical prowess in several different capacities; bandleader, session / studio musician, back up vocalist, composer and choir leader.
She has toured as a soloist with Dr Roger fox and his big band and as a backing singer for Elvis impersonator Ben Portsmouth, winner of the Elvis Presley Enterprises 2012 ‘Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist contest’. One of Deannes’ most recent musical ventures took her to the USA with the Wellington international Ukulele Orchestra, playing forty shows over nine weeks across the country.
As well as being an accomplished vocalist, she is also an extremely competent guitarist, pianist and arranger, writing for her own musical projects Whim and Ida Lune.
She also features on several songs as a co-writer and vocalist on Pacific Heights’ newest album The Stillness that is signed with Warner New Zealand.
This track is the latest single from her EP entitled Hiraeth which will be released on Bandcamp in October this year.
Her music is soothing to the soul. With one note you are taken aback with her impresssive vocals and musicals arrangements.
