Song of the Day: “Bigger” by TYSSON

Today’s song is “Bigger” by TYSSON. The New Orleans duo is comprised of John Michael Rouchell (vocals and guitar) and Alvin Ford Jr. (drums, percussion, vocals). Each had been playing music separately; John Michael, coming from his band MyNameIsJohnMichael, and Alvin, an in-demand session and live drummer (Pretty Lights, Dumpstaphunk, Dr. John, Dirty Dozen Brass Band).

The two were born and raised in the close-knit New Orleans music scene and met at NOLA’s famed Jazzfest Gala. It was then when they discovered their shared obsession with 80’s pop/R&B, modern hip-hop/R&B and 1950’s noir film aesthetics which they both liked to incorporate into their music.

This pop alt duo pulls from their past experiences to create a sound that is both unique and progressive. And thus, TYSSON was born – a name to provoke evocation in deference to Cicely the accomplished actress and Miles Davis muse, and the boxer Mike, the tough exterior covering a fragile and broken core.

This is the debut single from their self-titled EP out September 2016. The video recently premiered on All Things Go.

Driven by arresting vocals, epic percussion, and an explosive chorus, this NOLA twosome has the sound that will hit your heartstrings. This is an anthemic song for the summer.
