Today’s song is “Fisher King” by Matt Bennett. The Los Angeles based artist is a comedic actor and musician best known as a co-star of the Nickelodeon series Victorious and recently seen in the festival circuit hit film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. He recently appeared as a guest star on the hit show The Big Bang Theory and can also be found hosting his monthly variety show This Show Is Your Show at The Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles.

This song is off his upcoming concept album. It is entitled Terminal Cases and was inspired by the films of Robin Williams. After having his show abruptly cancelled and finding out about his parents divorce he was floating through his days. He felt like he had no direction in life. The album was an outlet for Bennett. “With no job and very little structure to my days, my life seemed directionless,” he recalls. “I realized change could only come from within, so I started making this album.”

Bennett also takes influences from Lou Reed’s Berlin to create a raw and powerful sound that incorporates gritty guitars and slow spoken lyrics. It is punk rock poetry set to music. This song has a silly yet serious tone that is instantaneously likable.
