Song of the Day: “Amelia” by YJY

Today’s song is “Amelia” by YJY. The Hightstown, New Jersey band is making waves with their debut EP, Couch Surfin USA, which was released in July 2015.

The emerging artists have crafted a sound that is part Weezer part Waaves with some catchy indie rock that features delectable fuzzy guitars and dreamy pop melodies. It is no wonder they have made a handful of year-end best-of lists, as well as being named Philly area’s Top Emerging Artist by Deli Magazine.

The video for this song premeried earlier this year on the NJ blog Speak Into My Good Eye. It stars YJY frontman Steve Sachs and was edited by guitarist and vocalist Ricardo Lorenzo.

Inspired by the work of filmmaker Kenneth Anger, the video features tight shots of Steve as he details a bright orange 1974 Volkswagen Beetle. Director, and friend of the band, Dean Luis Chuqui shot the majority of the video, while Steve contributed the VHS shots that are interspersed throughout.
