Song of the Day: “Chains of Love” by Malia Grace

Today’s song is “Chains of Love” by Malia Grace.

The Austin singer/songwriter has been writing her own music since the age of 13, and has grown as an artist since then through experience and education. Growing up as a rock and jazz singer, Malia took a different turn when she entered college by studying opera. Now, Malia manages to go back and forth between classical and pop by studying speech-level singing, and focusing the majority of her time on songwriting

She has been pursuing music full-time after graduating with honors from The University of Texas at Austin where she completed a degree in Music Business and Business Foundations.

Credited by fellow musicians and mentors with an amazing ear for music and excellent pitch, Malia Grace attributes much of these gifts to efforts in overcoming what doctors thought to be profound hearing loss as an infant and toddler. She has enjoyed early success in her music career, winning the Austin Songwriter of the Year Award (BeBobAlooza 2014) and earning an invitation to play an official showcase at SXSW 2015 even before the release of her debut album.

This song is off Grace’s debut self-titled EP which was crowd funded through a successful Indiegogo campaign. The album is composed of her most frequently requested songs, already well received by Austin-area audiences. On the new EP, Malia says “I worked with some of the most talented musicians in Austin. Hands down. I am incredibly grateful for their hard work and the amazing synergy we were able to achieve during our sessions.”

Her music has been described as “pop songs for a wide audience”
Listening to this track you can hear the appeal of her sound. The infusion of pop, melodies with country guitar licks pairs perfectly with her sultry and soulful vocals. Her music is appealing to various listeners and she would be at home with fans of artists from Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin to Adele, Amy Winehouse, Kerry Underwood, and Taylor Swift.
