Today’s song is “Badlands” by Smoke Season. This track is off the band’s new EP Hot Coals Cold Souls out now. Smoke Season was formed in early 2013 as an experimental project by Gabrielle Wortman (lead singer of TEMP3ST) and Jason Rosen (former keyboardist of Honor Society). Inspired by “the Old West, tumbleweeds, and a pioneering youthful spirit”, Smoke Season wrote and self-produced their first EP, Signals, in their rehearsal space. After being released in March 2013, the Signals EP went on to independently sell thousands of copies and garner critical acclaim. The success of the EP took both the band and the indie music scene by surprise.
Since then, Smoke Season has been steadily touring, showcasing their music around the country and most notably at 2014 Sundance Film Festival, on AXS TV, Bite Size TV, Balcony TV and more. The first single off their forthcoming EP, Badlands, has been gaining significant radio and blog traction since its release in May 2014. Smoke Season is currently in the studio completing what they refer to as their first “real” EP out now.
This duo has taken their musical inspirations and created hot, smoky western rock. The salacious vocal harmonies complement this unique folk and electronica fused Americana for an instantaneous appeal.
