Today’s song is “God of War” by The Blue Project. The Asbury Park, NJ based group was put together by American composer-songwriter and guitarist Danny A Petroni in the wake of superstorm Sandy. When music productions all but stopped, Danny Petroni set out to put local musicians to work. With the goal of employing local musicians and using local music production impacted by Sandy, all guided by his original songs, Petroni and co recorded an impactful blues/jazz/funk album.

Petroni’s father was born in Ravigo, Italy and his maternal grandfather was born in L’Aquila, Italy. He attended Trenton High School where Jazz organist/arranger Tom Passarella and alto saxophonist Tom Grice were his teachers. Bassist Reggie Workmen, trumpeter Clark Terry and an assortment of world class jazz musician would come to the Trenton school to teach and conduct Jazz workshops. Petroni has performed with the the jazz musicians Steve Nelson, James Spaulding, Johnny Griffen, Frank Lacy, Luther Thomas, and Tony Scott.

The Blue Project will be playing at Silvana in Harlem, NYC this month on July 24th. The Bluesy rockers have a phenomenal jazzy vibe that is a mish mosh of Charles Bradley, Otis Redding and Eric Clapton.
