The indie-folk/folk-rock outfit Matt Townsend and The Wonder of the World have a brand new full-length CD. The self-titled album which was successfully crowdfunded, came out earlier this week. The band consists of Matt Townsend (vocals, electric and acoustic guitars), Jamie Bright (bass/piano/organ/ backing vocals/percussion), Tim Carman (drums), Rachel Keyser (violin/backing vocals), Johnnie Day Durand (musical saw), Jeremy Hammond (acoustic bass/backing vocals), Casey James Saulpaugh (pedal steel guitar), and Peter Bixby (bass guitar).
Inspirations for the album included “strange dreams and visions, the precarious beauty of human life, and the mysterious forces of the Universe”. The songs feature themes of loss and redemption, spiritual yearning, romantic longing, death, re-birth, freedom, alienation, gratitude and more. Matt has toured throughout the Southeastern US, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Ireland.
This video features Matt playing an acoustic guitar and lamenting about lost love. It is an easy listening folk-rock gem laced with lovely vocals. Watch below and for more information on Matt Townsend check out his official website, Facebook page.
