Song of the Day: “From Here” by Katey Laurel

katey Laurel
Today’s song is “From Here” by Katey Laurel. You can hear an amalgam of influences in her music. She draws inspiration from many musical styles; everything from bluegrass and Appalachian roots records of her family’s early “hippie years” to the classic rock of Stevie Nicks and The Who. She also has a flare of 80s dance-pop divas like Debbie Gibson and Paula Abdul as well as some alt rock of the 90s and a touch of classical piano with a rock tinge. Her music is soul soothing and has been described as bit of Natalie Merchant, mixed with Sarah McLachlan, Over The Rhine, and Dixie Chicks. This track is in the vein of Ingrid Michaelson meets Aimee Mann.
