Eat Sleep Breathe Music caught up with vocalist Jerome of Elephant12 to talk about how they came together, what influences their sound, and their plans for 2013.
ESBM: How did you come up with your name?
Jerome: How we came up with the name was random, Robbie went to see a gig at the Garage in London and in the smoking area, he started talking about music with a bunch of youngsters and he asked them to come up with a name for our band. The kid mentioned Elephant 12. Robbie, Miles and myself started to think of our sound and how grand it is Elephant fit us perfectly, the 12 added and I said our sound is “like 12 Elephants in a room”..Plus no one really knows how elephants die..All this mystery around elephant became a perfect fit. Never saw that kid again.. who knows he might demand some copyright money one day 🙂
ESBM: What is your favorite place to go on tour?
Jerome: Spain was amazing and they went crazy for the the sound and the live shows too..
ESBM: What music influences your band?
Jerome: All sorts really, from old school to modern, 70’s Hard Rock, Electro, Hip Hop, we find that the cool thing about music is that there’s a song for each day of our life, it depends on the mood we’re in..
ESBM: How would you describe the differences between the London music scene and
the US?
Jerome: It’s pretty much the same on a certain level, like any other big city based on money and media it works like a magnet, it attracts creative people…Tons of famous bands came out from London, and tons of famous bands came out from New York or LA.. diferent weather conditions, same mentality, and mechanism..
ESBM: What are your plans for 2013?
Jerome: Releasing a new EP, touring, recording and building our audience on
our way of being the biggest band
ESBM: Any last words?
Jerome: Yeah, DON’T GROW UP, IT’S A TRAP!!! 🙂
