Today’s song is ‘Þerney (One Thing)’ by Pascal Pinon. This is the first single off the Icelandic twin sisters sophomore album Twosomeness which is out February 5 via Morr Music. When Pascal Pinon was only fourteen, the girls got together with two of their friends and decided to start a band. They reportedly insisted on recording their self-titled English and Icelandic debut album with equipment they found themselves and techniques they scraped together on the fly. Still a four-piece when they released it in 2009, the band is now essentially comprised of Jófrídur and Ásthildur, with occasional help of Kristín and Sylvía.
Their debut album earned them a nomination for “Newcomer of the Year” at the Icelandic Music Awards and received praise from KEXP, Blurt, Paste, The Guardian, with the Boston Phoenix stating the music is “part bedroom pop and part forest folk…the direction they take here veers toward the blankets-and-chairs fort of daydreamy indie pop that Kimya Dawson has been building for years… The ladies drape toy pianos and sets of bells over nursery-rhyme guitars that are like cut-out Michel Gondry props.” Pascal Pinon will be playing two sets at Eurosonic Festival this January.
