Today’s song is “Understanding” by Shirk Circus. This song is off the band’s album This Band Will Destroy Your Life on Domedary Records. The album which was released last month is an album 15 years in the making. After the tragic passing of frontman Josh Silverman in February 2011, the surviving members of Shirk Circus, their family and friends decided to put forth this album in honor of his memory.
After putting out two LP’s on punk-stalwart Bar/None, This Band Will Destroy Your Life was laid down by Josh Silverman (guitar/vox), Dan Smith (bass) and Frank Lieberum (drums) in the late 90’s on a whim. Such a whim in fact, that vocals were never recorded before the group disbanded, leaving the LP to collect dust, unfinished on the shelf for over a decade.
Fast forward to 2007. Josh Silverman re-entered the studios with the original sessions’ producer Ray Ketchum to record the decade-old vocal tracks closing the door and making the album able to be available today.
