Song of the Day: "Mexico" by Jonquil

Today’s song is “Mexico” by Jonquil. The UK qunitet is composed of Hugo Manuel (keys/vocals), Sam Scott (trumpets/basses), Robin McDiarmid (guitars), and Dom Hand (drums). This is the latest track off the band’s new 7″ vinyl split with Solid Gold Dragons out on Dovecote Records (Hooray For Earth, The Futureheads). Jonquil made their US debut earlier this year playing three sold-out New York shows in 48 hours.

Listening to this song you’re transported back to the sun and shine of a summer day. It’s breezy and vibrant melodies makes me feel like I’m laying on the beach listening to a energetic, calypso band.

Jonquil will return to NYC for this month’s CMJ festival. If you’re going to the festival be sure to check them out.

Listen below and for more information see their official website, MySpace, and get your own FREE download of this song on their Facebook page.
