Today’s song is “Already Yours” by Bahamas. Bahamas is Afie Jurvanen (pronounced AY-fee), who grew up in Barrie, Ontario, about two hours outside of Toronto. This song is off his album Pink Strat While you would think that a person living in the balmy cold of Canada would not have the ability to put together music that sounds like it originated from a tropical island. Afie is an accomplished musician, who worked as a sideman for Jason Collett and many others, before spending three years touring internationally as Feist’s guitarist/pianist. During that time, he was writing the songs that would become the album, Pink Strat which was released on CD and vinyl in late 2009 in Canada only. The album received a Juno nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year – Solo and was nominated for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize for Best Canadian Album of the Year. Last week there was a soft release in the US and is available on iTunes. His next album is slated for release in late summer expanding upon what you hear on Pink Strat.
