Eminem, Muse, and Foo Fighters will be rocking Chicago’s Grant Park this summer as three of the headliners at Lollapalooza 2011, which will take place Aug. 5-7. The news was first reported by the Chicago Tribune, and although festival promoter C3 Presents had no comment, the trio of headliners was confirmed by multiple sources to Billboard.com.
The gig would be the first announced festival performance of 2011 for Eminem, whose “Recovery” was the best-selling album of 2010 and is up for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 13). The rapper has recently been drawing raves for appearing in a Chrysler TV commercial during last Sunday’s Super Bowl, which manager Paul Rosenberg says received an “ecstatic” response.
Muse, who headlined at Coachella and Glastonbury in 2010, will play this year’s Lollapalooza after opening for U2 in South America this spring on that band’s 360° Tour. Foo Fighters have already announced performances at this year’s Sasquatch! Festival and Hangout Music Festival, as well as an April 12 release date for their still-untitled seventh album.
The full lineup for Lollapalooza 2011, which marks its 20th year of existence and seventh year as a stationary festival in Chicago, is expected to be announced in April. Also expected to play Lollapalooza, according to several industry sources: Best Coast, Girl Talk, Crystal Castles and Lykke Li. At least three more headliners will join Eminem, Muse and Foo Fighters. Lady Gaga, Green Day, Arcade Fire and Soundgarden were among the headliners at last year’s fest.
