Jimmy Eat World has teamed up with Gowalla, a location-based social network, to create a ‘check in’ aware promotion around the band’s current tour in support of their new album, Invented.
Gowalla has crafted a custom ‘moving spot’ for the band which will follow along as they tour the US & UK/Europe. Concert goers are invited to ‘check in’ via their mobile device’s Gowalla app when the band is in town. From that they’re eligible for a free SoundCloud powered download redeemable from checkin.jimmyeatworld.com.
In addition to the free download, fans who check in may also find virtual Invented CDs and merchandise, a technique Gowalla has pioneered. These virtual finds can then be used to redeem real merch from the band’s online store.
All check-ins, photos, and comments generated by fans and the band are aggregated to checkin.jimmyeatworld.com, giving a nice real-time view of the campaign’s activity.
Invented will be available everywhere September 28th. Fans can find pre-order options specific to their country at jimmyeatworld.com/invented/buy.
