Boston quintet New Collisions, have accomplished a lot in the short time they have been a band. The quintet came together back in the Spring of 2009.
Three months after their first performance, the band was on tour with The B-52s and Blondie. Four national tours later, they have shared stages with The Morning Benders, Missing Persons, You Say Party! We Say Die!, and Owl City. Greg Hawkes, legendary synth-player of The Cars, became an early fan and collaborator, live and in-studio. After six months together, New York Magazine and This Week in New York placed them in the top ten of CMJ 2009.
They self-released a 7-song EP which garnered multiple pressings sold out and over thirty thousand (documented) downloads as well as a full-length that was recorded in under 10 days.
Eat Sleep Breathe Music contributor Alison caught up with the band at this past SXSW. Watch below as they discuss playing with Hawkes, their musical influences, and what it was like touring with The B52’s and Blondie.
