The NY Post reported today that Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein promised his sponsor and manager he’d check into rehab following a scheduled Vegas gig on Friday – but just hours later he was found dead in his apartment.
AM’s recent behavior so worried the two that they hopped on a plane to NYC Wednesday to confront him. When they arrived at Goldstein’s SoHo pad Thursday, the deejay would only allow his manager inside – and, after lighting up a crack pipe and popping pills in front of him – AM promised them both that he’d enter a clinic in California in the coming days.
When cops entered Goldstein’s home on Friday they found plastic bags containing Vicodin, oxycodone, Zanax and lorazepam. Handlers say Goldstein, who had a paralyzing fear of flying following his near-fatal crash, begged doctors for anti-anxiety medication.
In other DJ AM related news, Blink 182 canceled their show last night in Saratoga, New York, due to the death of friend and collaborator DJ AM Goldstein. Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and Chester French will all go on. A statement from the band reads:
“Due to circumstances surrounding the unfortunate and untimely passing of our dear friend Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, blink-182 will not be playing tonight in Saratoga, NY at SPAC. Performances by Weezer, Taking Back Sunday and Chester French will take place as planned along with some special surprises. We thank all of our fans for their support in this tough time.”
No confirmation as to when or if Blink 182 will rejoin the tour.
