Breaking New Year's Resolutions Tour with Jamestown Story and Take Cover at Angels & Kings NYC

While I enjoy rocking out as much as the next person, I also really enjoy more subdued listening every now and then. Dating back since I discovered Dashboard and my first Punk Goes Acoustic CD, I have become of a fan of when a quality band sounds just as good if not better with just a guitar and some solid vocals. I think it really shows the depth of a band and the lead singers voice to pull off a song with just the stripped down bare essentials. Luckily when the mood strikes, No One You Know Productions has been putting on Acoustic shows at Angels & Kings in NYC. This past Friday I went to another one of these shows of which I am starting to become quite the enthusiast. Jamestown Story and Take Cover, two bands hailing from Minneapolis, who are currently touring together were on the previous weekends line up.

Take Cover who performed four songs is a pop/rock band who typically consist of five members but performed that night minus their bassist and drummer. I was immediately taken by lead singer, Ryan Wickard’s, melodic vocals and the heartfelt lyrics. Their performance was very captivating and I think there music translated very well to a live acoustic show. Overall I thought they were really talented and I think I have a crush on Ryan’s voice – I have been listening to their self titled EP for days now and am still totally addicted. The standout track “One More Shot” has been stuck in my head with its amazing vocals, soaring guitars and emotional lyrics which really resonate. Two of my other favorite songs off the EP are – the upbeat and fun “Dangerous” which is infectious and makes you want to sing-a-long and “Star Crossed Lovers”. The other two tracks “Letting Go” and “Lady Love” don’t exactly reinvent the wheel but are both very catchy and relateable. I really hope this band comes back to the area sometime soon so I can check out what the full band sounds like live. Their EP is out now. Check them out on Take Cover - Take Cover - EP!
