Song of the Day: “Major Trouble” by Proud Creature

Proud Creature Playing the Piano Song of the Day | Eat Sleep Breathe Music
Today’s song is “Major Trouble” by Proud Creature. Proud Creature is the solo project by Todd Brozman, a multi-instrumentalist and music producer with roots in piano.

Brozman has been playing piano since the age of 6 after convincing his mother to buy him a little demo Casio at an electronics store.

His music has been improvisational in nature and his musical background is inspired in part by his father’s multi-genre 60’s and 70’s record collection.

During his college years, Todd got into electronic music while doing a radio show at Wesleyan University. It was also at this time that he started creating new music. He fused electronics with improvisational jazz.

After college, he spent the following years gigging around SF and the greater Bay Area as a jazz pianist. Ten years ago he moved to New York and started to shift his focus towards music production.

There he produced and recorded with some great collaborators. This notably includes co-producing with singer and producer KYOSi. He also created and releaseded music as part of the electronic improvisational duo Moon Casual alongside electronic musician and CG artist Mike Dunkley.

Now Brozman is focusing on his own solo project. Proud Creature’s music has a sense of surrealism and should appeal to experimental ambient artists such as Oneohtrix Point Never and Future Sounds of London.

This song is off his new 5-track Opening Creature EP. Brozman says the album reflects his travels and explorations over the past few years. “I’m trying to capture the headspace that opens up when we venture out of our default mindset and into something broader and more abstract. For me, these spaces have been explored through travel, dreams, nature, and spiritual exploration. Musically, there’s lots of improvisation with eclectic instrumentation and non-traditional production techniques along with layerings of field recordings from travel, nature and religious prayer. Together, this creates an ethereal and otherworldly tone that underscores the broader themes of the album. As a whole, I am striving for something that feels alive, expansive, mysterious and alluring.”

This track is an effortless composition mashing up genres of jazz, ambient, electronica, and psychedelia for a sound that will enchant the senses with its appealing ethereal feel.

It provides a mystical feel that is light and free. You will feel at ease as the music takes you over.
