Today’s song is “Cassava” by Bad Reed. The Brantford, Ontario band consists of Costa Chatzis on percussion, Austin Sharpe on bass, Sydney Sollazzo vocals and keyboards, and Graham Walker on guitars. The group emerged in March 2015 from the ashes of their previous acts to forge a new, focused force of nature. Strip-searching music’s history while fusing modern zest, they are likened to acts from Alt-J, Hozier, Jack White, and The Black Keys to Snarky Puppy, The Mars Volta, and Esperanza Spalding.
Upon first listen of this band I was smitten with their music. Bad Reed has a delectable multitude of sounds crafted by a diverse range of talented musicians. They take the best of various genres to create a crazy good sound. It reminds me of the reggae vibe of Sublime with the soul of Alabama Shakes topped off with a rock feel of A Perfect Circle. This song is off the band’s self-titled EP which came out last June.
