Today’s song is “The Weight I’m Feeling” by Livewires. The Saddle Brook, NJ band consists of childhood friends Brian Wiseman (guitar, vocals), Tom Pernetti (drums), and brothers Chris and Mike Martinez (bass and guitar). This track is the lead single off the foursome’s debut full-length, Onfim Goes to War, available now via Smacktone Records.
The record is a follow up to 2013’s Strong Colors EP. Livewires titled the new album in honor of an inspiring young hero of theirs – In the 1950s, archaeologists discovered ancient Russian birch bark drawings that had been preserved for centuries, dating back to the Middle Ages.
Some of these drawings were made by a six-year-old student named Onfim who, amidst writing his lessons from class and practicing his alphabet, would daydream and sketch fantasies of becoming a warrior and going to battle.
This NJ quartet packs a punch with their swift blend of surf, punk, and garage rock. It has a catchy summer vibe that will appeal to fans of Weezer.
