Two of the biggest stars of 2010 in the music business have been the angelic country star, Taylor Swift, and the rustic indie-rock band, Best Coast.
Mondo Amore, the second full fledged album from Nicole Atkins, may be coming just in time, with its release set for January 2011. The eight plus year music veteran has the raw emotion that Best Coast’s love songs possess, with the added polish of a studio artist like Swift.
“You Come to Me”, blends rock and country sounds underneath raw, emotional lyrics from Atkins, that are immediately felt in any music listeners heart. Song after song, Atkins proves that her strength lies in her ability make you believe in the premise of the song, which is rare in music today.
Atmosphere is another glowing strength of Mondo Amore, songs like “Vultures” and “My Baby Don’t Lie” which make the listener feel like they’re listening to a performer in a dive bar just west of El Paso, and yes that’s a good thing. Something about the music Atkins makes is just soaked with authenticity; it’s not mainstream and doesn’t really fit into a specific genre. These are the reasons that it’s possible, even likely that 2011 is a break out year for Atkins, and a big step towards planting herself firmly as a legitimate alt-rock, country superstar.
