Music To Get You Off Your A.S.S. from August 30—September 3

Arcade FireThe Suburbs
Arcade Fire have been struggling for years to finally hit it mainstream and gain the recognition that they deserve. Their single “Wake Up” was used for the “Where the Wild Things Are” trailer, but this album may be the one to gain acclaim within the industry.

Avenged SevenfoldNightmare
One of the few bands in the past 5 years in the metal genre to survive, Avenge Sevenfold continues to bring pounding drums despite the loss of James Sullivan. They have soldiered on with the screaming of lead singer M. Shadow.

Danger Mouse and SparklehourseDark Night of the Soul
Soft and lulling the song seems to be a sincere ballad upon first listen. However, the closer you listen to the song the eerier things get. Its pitch and pace reminds me of a suicide scene in some dark, independent film.

The only thing that kept coming to my head when listening to Menomena was weird, over and over again I could only think, “Wow, this is really weird”. As I write this I still am unclear why, but yeah, it’s definitely weird for some unexplainable reason.

Brad Paisley – “Anything Like Me”
This song has been out for a very long time, but is only getting officially released now. Since being on YouTube the song has amasses hundreds of thousands of hits, go find out why.

Kanye West, Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz – “Power Remix”
Following the trend of Kanye and Jay-Z making great remixes together (see “Diamonds”) the “Power” remix shows off the talents of both artists. Despite his best efforts Swizz Beatz’ horrible interruptions don’t hurt the overall greatness of the song.

Trey Songz – “Can’t Be Friends”
Trey Songz makes a living off of my 2 biggest pet peeves; not only does he make crappy R&B songs like China pumps out kids toys, but he also spells his name with a “z” instead of an “s”.

August 30th:
Eric Clapton, Santana, and Robin Trower at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in New York, NY at 7:30 p.m.
Three of the most legendary artists still alive and breathing will all be in one place at the same this coming Monday night. I’ll be working and getting ready to go back to school that night, you should be sitting with a drink in your hand at this once in a lifetime performance.

August 31st:
Jimmy Buffett at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY at 8:00 p.m.
There may be no chiller performer than Jimmy Buffett, the man lives in a world that consists of boats, babes, and bud. What could be better than to grab a little slice of that life, if not only for the couple hours that he performs? I couldn’t think of anything either.
