The Recording Academy announced today that Blink-182 are reuniting to play at Sunday’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards. Unfortunately, they are only presenting.
This will be the first time that all three members of Blink- Mark Hoppus, Tom Delonge, and Travis Barker- have shared a stage together since December 2004.
February 2005, they had announced they were going on “indefinite hiatus” and since then each member has been focusing on different projects- Hoppus worked as a producer and played with Barker in +44, DeLonge with Angels & Airwaves.
In recent months it appears that the boys are starting to rekindle their relationship. Hoppus wrote on his blog that he, Barker, and DeLonge have begun spending time together, fueling rumors of a full-scale Blink-182 reunion. Hoppus also told MTV News in an exclusive interview that he and DeLonge were “friends” again, and that the “future is wide open” for a Blink reunion.
At this point we do not know if Blink will be doing anything more than just presenting on Sunday, but the fact that there was a big to-do with the press mention tells me there may be more in the works….Plus it’s totally the year of reunions!
I’m really hoping that something comes out of this. If there was a Blink reunion it would be so awesome! I remember when I first saw them back at he Asbury Park Convention Center in 2000. They were so funny and put on an amazing show. The backstage at that venue is open and I remember we went and shook hands with Mark. I have this funny pic of him shaking my sister’s hand. It’s funny b/c like half of her face is in it. I have to find that and post it up here..ha!
