Miley Cyrus has gotten herself into some hot water again for photos that have surfaced. According to the Daily News Cyrus, her boyfriend, Justin Gaston, and others were snapped tugging on their eyes in an apparent poke at Asians.
George Wu, the executive director of the national Asian Pacific American nonprofit the Organization of Chinese Americans, has asked for Cyrus to make an apology:
“The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent. Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans.”
Could this scandal affect her winning a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award? Possibly, since this award is based on viewer’s voting and if enough people are irked at her actions it could cause her from getting the most votes.
In other Miley Cyrus news, the second half of the third season of Hannah Montana returns on Feb. 16.
